Weekly Prayer Guide:
GPS: Grow, Pray, Study
Week of October 12th - 16th
"Grace Before the Commandments"
1. What is God inviting me to recognize in today’s Scripture?
2. How is God inviting me to respond in my own life?
Monday: Delivered Before Directed
(Grow) Read Exodus 19:3-6
(Study). Before God gives the Commandments, God reminds them what has
already been done. Israel doesn’t obey to become God’s people. God has
already rescued them and brought them into a relationship with God. Their
obedience is meant to be a response to grace. God’s grace comes before our response (Pray) God, help me to see where I have been treating obedience as a way to
earn your approval rather than as a response to your grace.
Tuesday: A People Set Apart for Love
(Grow) Read Exodus 19:5-6
(Study) Being holy doesn't mean being isolated from the world or superior to it.
Israel is set apart to represent God’s character and to be a blessing to the
nations. They aren’t blessed for their own benefit, but so God’s goodness
may be made visible through their lives.
Holiness is becoming a people whose lives reflect the compassion, justice, faithfulness, and mercy of God. (Pray) God, how might you be calling me to reflect your character to the
people around me?
Wednesday: The Commandments Protect Relationship
(Grow) Read Exodus 20:1-17
(Study) The 10 Commandments are often seen as restrictions. But they are
really instructions for living faithfully within a covenant relationship—With God and each other. Which commandment most challenges the way I currently relate to God or to other people? (Pray) God, help me to see the commandments as boundaries that protect
love, trust, community, and human flourishing.
Thursday: Jesus Fulfills Rather than Abolishes
(Grow) Read Matthew 5:17
(Study) Jesus doesn’t treat the law as irrelevant but reveals its fullest meaning
and purpose. He moves beyond external compliance toward the
transformation of the heart. It isn’t enough to avoid murder; we have to deal
with anger and contempt. It isn’t enough to avoid adultery; we have to
consider how we treat others.
Jesus fulfills the Law by showing that its deepest purpose is not just
rule-keeping, but love of God and love of neighbor.
(Pray) God, help me to see where Jesus might be inviting me to move beyond
merely following a rule toward understanding the love and purpose behind it.
Friday: Grace Forms a Faithful People
(Grow) Read Exodus 19:3-7; Matthew 5:17
(Study) In these verses, God rescues Israel, God claims Israel as treasured,
God gives Israel a way to live, Jesus fulfills the Law and reveals its deepest
purpose, God’s grace forms people whose lives reflect God’s love. God’s
grace doesn’t just forgive us and leave us the same. Grace works within us,
shaping our desires, our relationships, and our daily practices.
We obey not to become loved, but because love is already at work in us.
(Pray) God, what is one concrete way you are inviting me to embody love
more faithfully this week?
Write down anything you want to work on after experiencing the GPS this
week. What is your next step?
